What to print before guests arrive

A simple card set keeps the game clear: one rules card, one steal-limit reminder, a few theme cards, and final-steal tokens for the host table.

  • Print one rules card
  • Add steal tokens
  • Use theme cards for reminders
  • Keep a spare set near the gifts

Helpful questions

Which cards are useful for a White Elephant game?

The most useful set includes a short rules card, the steal limit, turn-order numbers or tokens, and any special variation instructions. Theme reminders can help, but too many random action cards may slow the game or confuse new players.

How many printable cards should I prepare?

Prepare one turn marker per participant, one visible rules sheet, and a small number of spare tokens. If you use action cards, keep the deck short enough that the host can explain every effect before the first gift opens.

What should be printed on the main rules card?

Include who starts, whether a turn means opening or stealing, how many times one gift can be stolen, whether a stolen gift can be immediately taken back, and whether player one gets a final choice.

Do printable cards replace a host explanation?

No. Read the core rules aloud before play and keep the printed version visible for reference. Cards are most helpful as reminders; they cannot resolve unclear house rules that the group never agreed on.
